Santa Lucia Retreat
Set among the hills of the Santa Lucia Preserve, the clean design of this casual weekend getaway—amodern farmhouse comprised of gabled structures and flat-roofed galleries—celebrates its extraordinary setting at every turn. The house was designed so that views of the mountain range would be visible from every room; common areas flow seamlessly to outdoor living spaces. The minimalist palette of materials—local stone, recycled barn wood, zinc and planted roofs—feels entirely of the place. Interiors are refined yet relaxed: defining details include the “floating” beds in the cabin-like bunkroom; handmade glazed tile in the kitchen; and hand-troweled plaster walls, buffed to a soft sheen, throughout the house.
