Monte Sereno Compound

A touch of alchemy is at play in this compound, comprising a spacious main house and a guest house-meets-spa, overlooking the Santa Cruz Mountains. The minimalist palette—Minnesota limestone, plaster, bronzed steel, and glass—is used across the project, both indoors and out. The guesthouse, a classic 1970’s ranch, was gutted, and a warren of rooms on the lower level gave way to a surprising luxury: a large indoor pool.. An almost lacey grid of glass-and-steel windows and doors covers the exteriors of both houses, making the architecture feel at once substantial and full of light.
