Los Altos Stone House
Memories of a childhood spent among the stone farmhouses and olives groves of the Bouche-du-Rhone are the inspiration behind this home for a family with French country roots and decidedly modern tastes. The exterior is clad entirely in buff-hued mortar and stone; the roof is antique terra cotta roof tile. Inside, clean architectural forms are defined by steel-framed windows and doors and recycled beams and oak floors. The steel railing on the staircase is crimped in a design inspired by a pattern of musical notes lifted from a composition by Erik Satie, a favorite French composer.
