Atherton Estate

This project is a response to a familiar—and very welcome—challenge: How to design a modern home within a historic shell? The answer this time was a combination of expansion and simplification, resulting in a home that honors its turn-of-the-century provenance while providing a contemporary living space for a young family. The renovation adds a second building to the site, seamlessly integrated into the plan and connected to the main house via a breezeway. The interior floor plan was gutted with the goal of maximizing space and light.
